I have a lot. What sets me apart is that I have both in-house corporate experience and advertising agency experience. I attack my work with a strong understanding of both positions. Numbers married with creativity resonates with consumers.

Creative Director — National Wholesale, Lexington, NC  July 2013 to the present

• Responsible for the creative direction and management of teams leading the brand, advertising, catalog, internet and social media, for an established women's apparel company.

• Provide leadership and management across all creative communications and customer touch points.

• Directing large-scale photo shoots both model and product. Assuring that all executions are compelling and directly aligned with catalog and company objectives.

• Concept and develop brand advertising, both print and broadcast.

• Manage a team of creatives to execute company goals.

 

Creative Director — The Brand Company, Portland, ME, Sept. 2011 - 2013 

• Concept, develop and execute all strategically driven advertising material—from broadcast to print,     collateral to social media. 

• Select and direct photographers, models, and freelance talent.

• Clients; Cellardoor Winerey, Mercy Hospital, Shepard Financial, Megunticook Market, Papier, Maine Winter Sports, Linda Banks Design Studio, Purdy Powers & Company, Art Collector Maine. 

 

Owner — Intelligent Design, LLC, Asheville, NC, Sept. 2006 - to present 

• From national retail store signage roll-outs, award-winning brand identity packages to large scale product shoots, and customized web site design, I manage, art direct, design, and often write for my clients. From developing creative that leads marketing efforts to designing award-winning identity packages and memorable web development. 

• Clients; Lowe’s Companies, Inc, Rack Room Shoes, Inc., The Mann Group Retail Marketing, Native Marketing, Grand Harbor Real Estate, Steven McBride Photography, Asheville Arts Center, Grandfather Home for Children 

 

Creative Manager — Lowe’s Companies, Inc., Mooresville, NC, November 2004 to Sept. 2006.

Senior Art Designer — January 2002 to November 2004. 

• Manage a team of designers to develop and execute all advertising material for Lowe’s Public Relations, Human Resources, Building Materials, Millwork, Hardware, Appliances, Outdoor Power Equipment, Commercial Business Consumer and Multi Cultural, across all channels, from national broadcast, national print, in-store signage, collateral and direct mail. 

• National television experience, work with agencies to develop national consumer campaigns 

• Concept and develop strategically driven national branding ads. Responsible for developing concepts with a writer. Work with and present to Product Managers and Marketing Managers. 

• Manage outside agencies, from their creative work to their representation of the Lowe’s brand while maintaining budgetary guidelines and timeline. 

• Select and direct photographers, and models. 

• Developed Project Starter, one of Lowe’s most successful direct mail programs. 

• Concept and design national billboard campaigns. 

 

Senior Art Director/Designer — Price/McNabb, Inc., Charlotte, NC, June 1997 - December 2001. 

• Responsible for the strategic development of all direct marketing concepts and presenting for client approval. Projects cover a wide spectrum, from postcards, to three dimensional mailings, to high-end collateral brochures and seminar invitations. Clients are, but not limited to Pinehurst Resort, Starbucks, Drexel Heritage, BFI, Bowles Hollowell, Paramount Parks, AT&T Universal Card and Bank of America. 

• Projects require following each through from concept to production. 

• Manage freelance artists, writers and photographers, while maintaining budget and timeline. 

• Although work was focused on direct marketing, it was not limited to that alone. Other projects include illustration work, billboards, newspaper inserts and designing a tradeshow booth. 

• Assisted in production management of all pieces.

 

Art Director — Garden Way, Inc., Corporate Headquarters, Rensselaer, NY, 1995 - April 1997. 

• Formulate concepts, layouts and final designs for all Owner projects, ie. monthly statement stuffers, product brochures, one yearly full product-line catalog and two quarterly full-line, four color catalogs; The TROY-BILT Owner News and Solutions. 

• All projects require meeting with in-house clients, developing a concept and presenting for approval, following each project through from concept to production. 

• Hire and work with freelance artists and photographers, while maintaining budget guidelines. 

• Responsible for developing a catalog-style statement stuffer that increased sales in the Owner channels, and also creating the seasonal Solutions catalog.

 

Art Director — The Orvis Company, Inc., Manchester, VT, April 1989 to December 1993. 

• Formulated layouts and design concepts for six catalogs. The Gift and Clothing, published quarterly and the Orvis Travel, published three times a year, plus assisted with Mary Orvis Marbury and Orvis At Ease. 

• Responsible for all Gift and Clothing Catalog covers, which included both stylized product and nature images. Reviewed and selected nature images from national photographers. Responsible for men’s fashion and gift sections of the Gift and Clothing Catalog. 

• Developed the overall design of the Orvis Travel Catalog. Creating the logo and hang tags for merchandise. Handled all layouts and photography for luggage and hard-goods. 

• Directed illustrators and photographers. 

• Review, approve, and present final layouts to department heads. 

• Traveled domestically and internationally for color separation proofs and press checks. 

• Job also entailed designing of domestic and regional magazine ads brochures, hangtags, t-shirts, and product packaging. In June of 1992, I left Orvis, due to spouse job relocation but continued to work with Orvis on a freelance basis.
